Belimbing Superstar – Peranakan food made accessible!

Belimbing Superstar was an awesome lunch choice yesterday.

This 4-day old peranakan joint serves food “chye png style” or “teochew porridge style”; you select your dishes based on the 30 or so varieties available.

The beauty of this is you’ll be able to order a large variety of dishes in smaller portions.

This means even if you’re dining solo, you can scratch that peranakan food itch too!

Classics like ayam buah keluak, babi pongteh, belimbing pork, chap chye along with coconut jelly, yam cake and cheng tng feature on the extensive menu.

Chef Ben Teo (of Peranakan Flavours fame) teamed up with the folks behind The Coconut Club to create this casual new concept focused on flavour, flavour and flavour.

The hae cho was properly crunchy, buah keluak sauce was smooth, the pork in the pongteh and the belimbing was oh-so-soft, cheng tng was overflowing with ingredients and the little coconut bits in the coconut jelly (of course using their own coconut milk) was FWAH!!!!

Particular shout out to Chef Ben’s yam cake that was so good, we got a whole container to bring back with us.

With The Coconut Club moving up the road, Belimbing Superstar took up the adjacent unit to create this cosy 120-seater joint that looks like a traditional eatery in asia – complete with the spiral stairs!

Belimbing Superstar is open for lunch from 11am to 3pm, Tuesday to Sunday.
